Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these. (Mark 12:30-31)
Loving God, reach into our hearts during Black History Month and encourage us to look into the past, to think of our hearts today, and how our hearts can continue growing and changing into the future. Today is Rosa Parks Day and though I wasn’t alive in that time, it breaks my heart to learn what was normalized and still lingers in our world. I pray that all people can be treated equally and with dignity. Help us to teach our young ones better. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. (John 13:34)
Loving God, today is National Flannel Day and so we pray for comfort. We pray for days where we can wear our coziest outfits and conquer the world or rest. We give thanks for the variety of things created with flannel and for the patterns and designs. God, I’m thankful for the warmth and the memories that arise when just talking about flannel. God, be with our flannel. May it never go out of style. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. (1 John 4:7)
Loving God, today is National Make a Friend Day and we pray for our world and all the connections we could make. Where we feel anxious about getting to know someone new, remind us that they are also feeling the same. Guide our hearts to friendships that are healthy and life-giving, and guard our hearts from those that are not. May we always choose to lift one another up, sharing laughter and memories along the way. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing one another in love. (Ephesians 4:2)
Loving God, today is Giving Hearts Day and we pray for all who give to various causes and organizations. I pray that whenever we give, we think of how it can positively impact our world. I pray that we are critical in making the decisions on who and what to give, and always have a mindset of our donations of time, talents, or treasures will make the world a better place. We know that every little bit counts no matter how we share. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you. (Isaiah 54:10)
Loving God, today National Internet Friends Day. God, I pray that the generational gap that exists understands that online relationships matter just as much as our physical relationships. I pray that we can find authentic friendships online that are good for our souls. Guard us from fraud and scams, O God, and may we be open and honest with each other when something doesn’t quite feel right, so we can get some help. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return. (Genesis 3:19)
Loving God, on this Valentine’s Day we pray for everyone, and especially children and families. May the candy not be abundant but the gestures of love (time, hugs, playfulness) be overwhelming. Help us to set time aside to be present to share our love with one another. Remind us that we need to say that we love them, that we’re proud of them, that they hang the moon and the stars in the sky.
God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
Loving God, today International Childhood Cancer Day and on this Family Day weekend, we pray for all families who have or have had children affected by Cancer. God, help us to know that you do not test us in this way, but that you walk alongside us in the trials of life. Bless those who are advancing cancer research, treatments, and cures, those who are caring for patients, and those who are concerned for their loved ones. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Loving God, as we hear of Groundhog Willie’s predictions today, we pray for sunshine, for warmer days, and snow that is great to build snowmen with. We pray that all who live with Seasonal Affective Disorder have the tools and support needed to get through to spring and may we offer opportunities to spread light and love their way. God, give us hope, warmth, and comfort. And thank you for giving us Groundhogs we can blame if winter gets to be way too long. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Loving God, today is Elmo’s birthday! Thank you for his giggles and teachings and the joy he shares with children. For all Sesame Street has done for our children (including us much older children), we give thanks. We pray their ministry of education continues for generations to come, teaching us all how to be better people today and tomorrow. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. (Psalm 34:14)
Loving God, today is Facebook’s birthday! 22 years of learning, scrolling, and connecting. What used to be a young person’s connection is now keeping older folks connected. We give thanks for all the positives Facebook brings to our lives and pray that the negatives fall to the wayside and our outweighed by the light in the world. God, keep us critical of what we read, mindful of when it’s too much for our souls, and when we need to reach out for help or support from a wider community. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)
Loving God, today is Optimist Day and I pray the positivity is abundant wherever we go. May those of us who live in the ‘default to negative’ ways of thinking work hard to live into a ‘default to positivity.’ May we think the best of people when the world wants us to think the worst. May we find hope when things are hopeless. Help us, O God, to see the possibilities and the opportunities when faced with a challenge or an obstacle. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Consider the blameless, observe the upright; a future awaits those who seek peace. (Psalm 37:37)
Loving God, it’s National 80’s Day and I pray we can find all the fluorescent clothes we had and pull them out. May we surprise our loved ones with wild hair, songs from the past, and dances that have been out of style for quite some time. Grant us permission to have a little fun, be a little silly, and share stories of the 80’s with friends and loved ones. God, thank you that the 80’s are over though, and that they are never gone. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. (Titus 1:15)
Loving God, as we pray for children and families on Saturdays, today is Take Your Child to the Library Day. Our local libraries offer quite a lot of fun and opportunities for families to have adventures, read together, and do things they may not be able to do ordinarily through borrowing and using tools and so much more. Nudge our hearts to take time to go and explore what we can do as families as we support our libraries. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5)
Loving God, Superbowl Sunday, we pray for a more united community even if we root for different teams. May the love of sport bring us together, putting aside the political climate, even if it’s only for a few hours. Remind us that we are bigger than the darkness, that our voices can and do make a difference, and that your world and will need our light and love everyday. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Loving God, our world really needs some direction and love. We pray that clarity and discernment. We pray that sensibility and compassion come to the forefront of what we do and who we are. We pray for healing for the earth, for communities and the world. Be in our leaders and all who make decisions on our behalf. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Joshua said to them, “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Be strong and courageous. This is what the Lord will do to all the enemies you are going to fight.” (Joshua 10:25)
Liberating God, we think of all who lived through experiences at Auschwitz and give thanks for this Liberation Day. We pray that the stories of our past are learned from and not relived. We pray for dignity, compassion, and respect for all human life. We pray for understanding and an appreciation for diversity. God, we long for your hope to be seen in the news. We love for you light to shine in all hearts. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

I want to know Christ – yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. (Philippians 3:10-11)
Creating God, today is LEGO Day and I pray we have permission to get those little pieces out and create something. Spark within us good childhood memories, creativity, and connection. We give thanks for the innovation that went and continues to go into LEGO and the many sets we can invest in. Thank you for such a simple tool to do so much learning with. God, may we find out how our lives fit within your world as we learn and grow.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

God who frees us, grant us openness on this Freethinkers Day. Help us to find things to struggle with, so we can grow and learn each day. We pray that your Spirit finds home in our hearts, minds, and souls. We need you to rest deep within so we can be rooted in your light and love, being compassionate and critical in our world. Help us to never become complacent and to always seek justice. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

God of recreation and balance, today is National Escape Day and we pray that we can escape the realities of the world for but a few moments for play. Be present in our Family Night tonight and pray that everyone is excited to participate in everything. We pray for those who may be tired, that they have the energy to make it out so we can infuse them with our extra energy to get through the night. Help us, O God, to be present with each other in good and meaningful ways. May the young people see us in your beautiful light. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

We pray for children and families on Saturdays.
Parenting God, today is about using art to inspire our hearts, and so we pray that the many forms of art are used to express ourselves today. May we use it when it’s hard to come up with words. May we share our love of art with each other, and to treasure crafts made for years to come. We pray that families can create art together, creating and sustaining a unique bond in a special way. But God, for our families who are no longer together, we pray that they feel connected and supported, no matter what. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” But you, Lord, are a shield around me,my glory, the One who lifts my head high. (Psalm 3:2-3)
On the first day of the month, we pray for Truth & Reconciliation.
Rising God, today is National Get Up Day, where we encourage each other to rise and get things done. I wonder what we can do in our church and our community to continue the work of Truth & Reconciliation. For now, I pray you direct our hearts to do what we should be doing. I pray for an end to stereo-typing, racism, inequity, and inaccurate story-telling. I pray we are continuously curious to learn truths so we can live with a deeper sense of compassion and empathy for all. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Transforming God, today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the US and we think of all the changes that have been made within society throughout history. Continue to teach us, to open our eyes and our minds to the limitless world we could live into when all are treated the same. We have come a long way, but we still have a long way to go. Be in us, that we are your instruments for change. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word. (Psalm 119:114)
Limitless God, today is International Day of Acceptance. It’s a day to reflect on what we accept and what we reject. We can think about this in objects, places, people, and more. I pray in the depths of our heart, that we have a general curiosity about those our human hearts want to reject. I pray that your love and hope opens us up to their stories so we can grow further into your divine acceptance of all. God, help us. Teach us. Guide us. Give us courage, strength, and the right words. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

God of Community, today is Bell Let’s Talk Day, where we’ll see lots of posts about mental health struggles, and stories of perseverance. Help us to be more open and honest with ourselves and those we trust, with all our health: mental, physical, and spiritual. May we find people to lean on when things are tough, and may we be a rock for someone who needs our strength. May we continue to learn and grow in our understanding of mental health illnesses as we become stronger together. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Living God, today is Celebration of Life Day where we honour our children and grandchildren who bring us joy. We give thanks for all our family, whether bonded by blood or kinship, and all they bring to our lives. We thank you for our church community who has become an extension of our families. We pray that everyone feels accepted, welcomed, and appreciated in who they are and what they bring to our lives. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Mothering God, today is Maternal Health Awareness Day. We pray for all expecting moms and the care they receive. We pray for their bodies that are carrying little ones, for the health care that surrounds them, and for advocates that help them when questions arise. God, remind us that every body is different, every birth is different, and that times have changed. May we continue to learn and grow with expecting moms and may we be helpful to them in a variety of ways. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Parenting God, we pray for families on Saturdays. On this National Compliment Day, I pray that we take time to offer our little ones (no matter how old they are now), some words of kindness, encouragement, and love. I pray that we can do the same with our life partners, friends, and even our pets. In a world where negativity is the default, may we be the ones to flip the switch and put positivity in that place. For those who are feeling like they just keep getting torn down, may we have the strength and light to lift them up. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Youthful God, today is Youth Day and we pray that all our young people feel inspired and encouraged to learn who they are and find their spot in the world. May they try new things and uncover mysteries we may have been longing to find answers for. May they be permitted to be youthful, learning from mistakes, and growing in wisdom. Help us to be light for our young people today and everyday. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. (Isaiah 43:19)
Creating God, today is “Make Your Dream Come True Day,” and I wonder what dreams are among us. I wonder about the mom who wants to be a rockstar, the dad who wants to be a Michelin chef, the teenager longing to publish a book, or the child who strives to win a race. Whatever our dreams are, may we hold them and share them with you. You are the God of the impossible. Regardless of age and ability, you can make things happen. God, some of us might need your help more than others to make our dreams come true. Be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Holy God, on this World Logic Day, let us have some fun sharing the knowledge we have gained over the years. May we enjoy a game of Trivia Pursuit or watch Jeopardy! with friends to challenge ourselves. Thank you for the gift of education, in whatever form it looks like for us. Thank you for teachers, books, and curious minds that keep us going. May we continue to learn about our faith and our history as well. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Comforting God, today is Hat Day and I pray that we have a space to wear a hat or some kind of accessory to mark the day. What a fun way to spark conversation or to cover up the hair that sometimes won’t do anything. God, thank you for fashion and comfort, for love and for warmth. May our hats be a source of heat in this wintry season. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Creating God, today we celebrate religious freedom near and far. Sometimes it’s easier said than done as we might not understand each other, our beliefs and practices, and what it all means when we come together. Challenge us to explore the faiths of those around us, and dive into the similarities and the slight differences we have. May we remember that freedom means more than just tolerance. It takes acceptance and love. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. (Psalm 46:1-2)
Parenting God, we pray for families on Saturdays and today we’re thinking of all the children and youth who are inventors in our midst. May families encourage them to try new things and see what the world could really benefit from in good ways. May we work together to make those inventions a reality and to encourage creativity within all. God, remove limitations from our minds if we don’t believe they can do it. In Jesus’ name we pray. Ever-Present God, today is World Religion Day, and we gather for worship to celebrate Christian Unity. We understand that religion is not for everyone, but understanding there is something bigger than ourselves who roots for us and wants the best for us, can bring hope to many just as it brings hope to us. God, grant us open hearts and minds as we all work together for the common good of community. May we set aside the institution of religion and work with the Spirit in our hearts. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23)
Mysterious God, today is the day that wraps up the twelve days after Christmas. It’s the time for undecorating and finding one more piece after everything has been put away. God, help us to find a way to leave something of Christmas up to remind us of the joy and love the season brings. Nudge us with ways to continue living generously and in a spirit of abundance. God, your love through Jesus is amazing and we give thanks that he walks with us each day. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2)

Creating God, today is Epiphany, where we celebrate the arrival of the Magi into Jesus’ birth story. It’s the day we recognize that everyone knew who Jesus was and how he can change all lives, not just a few. We pray that as we think about the star they followed to find him, that we too can tap into the light Jesus shines into the darkness. God, be with those who need a little light in their lives. May we look for them too and shine the light you put within us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 11:19)
Holy God, we pray for the world today and all who have made resolutions. We pray for their success, and also that they have permission to fall off track a little along the way. We do our best learning in making mistakes. Remind us that mistakes are but a moment and don’t need to last a lifetime. Push us and encourage us to stay the course. God be with us in our resolutions. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Spirit-Gifting God, we celebrate Elvis Presley’s birthday today and give thanks that he shared his time and talents with the world. We give thanks that we can enjoy his music and stories for many years to come. God, may we learn from his life and his legacy, ensuring that celebrities can live somewhat normal lives. Protect them from harm and surround them with wise and good people. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Creating God, today is “Play God Day” where we are encouraged to go beyond ourselves and be and do for others. May we have time to reflect on the things we would do and change if money was unlimited or our time and talents were abundant. May we think of those who have less and wonder what it is we can do to help them in the long-term, not just the short-term. And may we think of how we might answer some prayers we may hear today. Inspire us, O God. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Parenting God, we pray for families on Saturdays and ask you to surround parents with sanity and wisdom. Infuse children with a safe curiosity and abundant kindness. For those who are being bullied at home, school, and/or work, may they have allies around them so they can continue being their authentic selves. Put in all of us kind hearts, O God, and patience… lots and lots of patience. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds. (Ephesians 4:22-23)
Ever-Present God, we’ll gather for worship today celebrating Jesus’ baptism. Remind us of the symbolic nature of water, but also of it’s necessary role in our lives. May we think about those who live without safe drinking water in their communities. Encourage us to do what we can to fuel change so that everyone has equal access to something we all need. And may we think of our own baptisms today, as we pray for those who are preparing to be baptized in the year ahead. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they are scattered on a day of clouds and darkness. (Ezekiel 34:12)
Comforting God, today is Tick Tock Day where we work through our to-do lists and finish any odd jobs we can, so we can leave them behind in 2025 and move into 2026 with a clean-ish slate. God, may we focus on the tasks that are meaningful and life-giving. May we cross off things that aren’t necessary. And for many of us, we need help in this area, remind us to delegate or ask for help to get it all done. We can create memories together in conquering the tasks. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble. (Psalm 119:165)
Challenging God, we learn of “Festival of Enormous Changes at the Last Minute Day” where we pull up our pants and make the decision to take action on something we’ve been putting off for quite a while. God, I know many who have been putting off doctor appointments and pray that this is the action they take. For those who hesitate on other things, give them courage and strength to get them done. And God, may we be pleasantly surprised by what happens when we start taking action. Be with us, especially in courage. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)
God of endings, we say goodbye to 2025 today. Help us to make note of all the good things that came our way. May we note the harder things and celebrate that we got through them. Today, we also remember all those who have passed this year and honour their lives and love among us. Be with us as we ring in the New Year, and God, give courage to friends who need to take keys away from us when we shouldn’t be driving. May we all get home safe and cherish all the days we have together as we move into 2026. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Happy New Year God! Thank you for the gift of breath as we start 2026. Grant us permission to rest and/or organize, clean, create goals, or spend time with those we treasure. God of motivation and inspiration, be in us today. Some are back to work trying to get through the day. Some get an extra day to rest up or conquer tasks. Some are preparing to get back to school. For all of us, give us a kick in the butt if we need motivation to get something done. Infuse us with creativity to try or build something new. God, you know what we’re capable of and I pray we see it too. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. (Psalm 33:3)
Encouraging God, on Saturdays we pray for families: their strong bonds, their methods of child-raising, and the love within. I pray that those who need a hug, get a hug instead of a lecture. I pray those in pain find healing in the arms or ears in a loved one. And that siblings can find a way to be together without Wrestlemania ensuing. Grant our littles time to be children, and our adults the direction they need in all they are entrusted with.  God, be with us all. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. (Colossians 3:9-10)
Living God, today is National CanDo Day where we are called to action. Guide us in seeking places to volunteer time where we can make a difference with our skills and passions. Light the path we need to do what we need to get done, inspiring and motivating us through until it’s done. And where we have something really big in mind, grant us an audience that may grow into a team to make change a reality. We need your heart, courage, and love, O God. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. (Luke 2:15-16)
Loving God, we give you thanks for your love for each of us. Help us to be mindful that you love all you’ve created. Today, we pray that our family who have suffered through Residential School Systems know that they have our love and support. The more we learn about the real history, the more our hearts break and ache. May we be intentional in our encounters, in our learning, and in our support, knowing that we are better when we grow and learn together.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

When the Maji saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. (Matthew 2:10-11)
Loving God, if we are persistent in our prayers, will you help us to change the world? Today we think of those who live on limited resources and cannot live on a regular budget because expenses exceed income all the time. Help us to be allies and advocates for changes in social systems. Help us to learn and understand all that is involved. Help us to see better on how to be community today and into the future. Guide us, O Light of the World, to offer the best of ourselves to you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. (John 1:9-10)
Loving God, on this Christmas Eve, we pray for our own Christmas Miracles. We pray with hope that relationships can heal. We pray with faith that systems can change. We pray with joy that your light is shared. We pray with love that everyone has what they need. God, be with refugees all over the world. Be with the lost and the lonely. Be with the ill and the dying. Be with those who worry and who fear. May we seek and find the star, the light, that draws us to your infinite love.  O Holy Child, dwell in us this night and forever. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Loving God, Happy Birthday to Jesus. We give thanks for his arrival among us and the hope, peace, joy, and love he brings into the world. May we be grateful today for all that we have. May we think of others and the needs of those around us. May we work together to strengthen our community bonds, community supports, and systems. Today, be with us as we celebrate Christmas. May we find your love wherever we are. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

God of Light, we thank you for signs of life among us. We pray that our world can experience signs of hope, peace, joy, and love.  We also pray that we can be a sign each day. Help us to find rest, to be kind, and to find goodness when everything around us seems chaotic, rude, or evil. May we grab hold of your love so it can sustain us in all the days of our lives. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

God of Light, as we live beyond the birth of Christ, help us to pay attention to those in harm’s way. Help us to see who needs healing and hope. Bring to us bold hearts and minds to change behaviours and patterns in our world that cause more angst than good. We pray for change in our world so that no one is in need of the basics in life. Beyond that, may we be the kind of people who care about each other, even if we disagree at times. God, be with us. In Jesus’  name we pray. Amen.

God of Light, today our church family takes a break from in-person worship to spend time with family and friends. We pray that everyone is getting a little rest and that they are enjoying time with loved ones. Be in us today and all the days of our lives, that we can easily find and share your light. Help us to be with others, no matter the circumstances, giving us the words they may be longing to hear. God thank you for creating us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

And Zechariah prophesied: And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.” (Luke 1:76-79)
Joy-filled God, as we near Christmas and think of all who are struggling, fill them with a sense of joy, especially in hard times. We think of our Indigenous brothers and sisters who are up against many barriers, and all who are recipients of hate-crimes and racism. May they find joy in a smile and in an acceptance, after a soft encounter within our world. May we be that kind soul who brings your light into dark corners. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” (Isaiah 40:3-5)
Creating God, bring joy to all this season. We think of those who live with daily hard choices between paying rent, food, medicine, gas, or even Christmas.  We pray that help and relief come their way. Move in our hearts and in our systems so lives may be transformed and folks can live without feeling like they’re in survival mode every day. Level our rough places and make room for your glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’” (Matthew 3:1-3)
God of all, as we pray for joy this week, we think of those who have strained relationships. We pray that even in the disconnections that may exist, that joy can be found, either individually or together. Help us learn to live with each other in harmony, even if it's not perfect, even if it's not together. Help us, O God, to always turn toward your love. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. And everyone went to their own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. (Luke 2:1, 3-5)
In this week of joy, we pray for friends living with addiction, in recovery, or feeling vulnerable. God, may they see a glimmer of hope and find new ways to face each day. May joy come through new interests, supportive people, and fresh beginnings. Help us stay present and listen so no one feels alone. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. (Luke 2:6-7)
Comforting God, we pray for all who live with chronic illness or disease and pray that they can have a break in their cycles of pain or treatment to experience joy this season. May we be present and share a memory with them, a laugh, or even a moment of calm. Help us to be good ears and solid shoulders should they need to share their struggles. God, may we provide a source of joy for all. God of wonder, enter the humble spaces of our lives and make them holy. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Creating God, we pray for children and families and that they’re finding joy amid the busyness of the season. With only a few days to go, we pray that they find balance in the chaos. May our families know they are loved and that they can find joy in the community
we have here. May we always be a source of hope, peace, joy, and connection for any who are looking for it. Let your joy find us wherever we are. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Loving God, we are just a few days away to the birth of Christ, renewing hope, peace, joy, and love in all the earth. Help us to prepare our hearts, to open our minds, and to use your eyes to see the world as you imagine it to be. Help us to be co-creators of that vision. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Creating God, as we pray for peace this week, we hold in our hearts those who lived in Residential Schools. We pray for Truth and Reconciliation, for healing for those who were harmed, and for justice that leads to lasting peace. Shape our hearts, language, and learning as we seek faithful and peaceful ways forward. O God, interrupt our ordinary days with holy wonder. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. (Luke 1:38)
Peace-Giving God, today we think of our friends who live without adequate supports within ODSP and Ontario Works programs. Help us to be allies, advocating for changes to the system and to the funding so that they can stop fighting to survive, and can focus on living with peace in their souls. The struggles can overtake the mind and the body, and God, we long for everyone to know what peace is. Teach us Mary’s courage – to say yes when we cannot see the way. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

But after Joseph had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” (Matt 1:20-21)
Creating God, help us to find and make peace in our strained relationships. Create in us hearts that are open to changing, open to learning, and open to accepting. We may find peace in just accepting things will never change. We may find peace in apologizing. We may find peace in other ways. Guide us into a way so worry dissipates from our minds and we can focus on things that can make a difference in or world. In our confusion, speak peace. Help us trust your greater plan. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus. (Matthew 1:24-25)
Loving God, we pray for peace for those living with addiction, for those in recovery, and for those who are vulnerable. Grant them a deep and healing peace, and bring comfort to their families as they walk alongside them. Bless all who offer care and support, and guide them toward hope and new paths. Help us help one another find strength, peace, and connection. Stay near, O God with us, and warm our waiting hearts. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! (Luke 1:41-42)
Creating God, we pray for peace for all who live with chronic pain, illness, or disease. We pray that they find comfort in your love. May they find peace in whatever outcome is theirs, in knowing they are not alone, and in the quiet of their souls. Where there is no cure, may peace be found in some way – support, prayer, or in the hope of advances in research. God, help us to be bearers of your peace by offering an ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on. Bless our believing, Lord, and fill our days with joyful expectation. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me - holy is his name. (Luke 1:46-49)
Creating God, we pray for children and families, asking for peace within their homes. Be near where little ones make peace hard to find, and give us strength to support one another. Grant patience and presence to families with teenagers, and surround those who are
separating with care and peace. Let our lives sing your praise, for you lift up the lowly and fill the hungry. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

When it was time for Elizabeth to have her baby, she gave birth to a son. On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him after his father Zechariah, but his mother spoke up and said, “No! He is to be called John.” (Luke 1: 57, 59-60)
Creating God, we begin the third week of Advent: Joy. It’s my most favourite week as we focus on finding some joy in our lives, even in the darkness, the storm, and the strife. Help us to catch a glimmer of your light so we can see a little joy in the hardships. Your promises are born in surprising ways, Lord. Help us notice your gifts. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
