365 Days of Prayer: September 1 to September 7, 2025

8/15/2025

September 1, 2025
Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favour in the presence of this man.” I was cupbearer to the king. (Nehemiah 1:11)
Creating God, on this World Letter Writing Day, help us to put pen to paper and send someone we love a random note just to say hello. Where we mostly find flyers and bills, let’s surprise someone with a little sunshine in the mail today. God, be with our mail carriers and service too as it’s great to communicate in various ways.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

September 2, 2025
You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. (Genesis 50:20)
God, on this Telephone Tuesday, encourage us to pick up the phone and call someone we haven’t spoken to in a while. We pray the conversation goes well and laughter is shared. Help us to be mindful of what it means to hear a voice on the other end of the line, as our lives may be isolated or so busy that we often feel alone. God, be with us as we share and as we call. And be with all those who work for the phone companies and services. May we treasure all the ways we can communicate in our world. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

September 3, 2025
Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favour as a shield. (Psalms 5:12)
Today we pray for our world and for those looking for new or a change in employment. God, point us in the direction of our calling and may we find work that is life-giving. Remind us that there are unique employment opportunities in churches and in the National Forces. For the entrepreneurs in our midst, may they feel encouraged to share their businesses and services with us so we know who we can call or where we can visit. Help us to be a strong community that helps each other in various ways. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

September 4, 2025
Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him.
You will eat the fruit of your labour; blessings and prosperity will be yours. (Psalms 128:1-2)
Loving God, today we pray for newspaper carriers. Though this is an area of employment that seems to be diminishing in it’s more commonly known sense, we pray for all who get newspapers to us. We pray for the reporters and the institutions and that they share factual information and stop leading us into extreme news only. Keep us critical of what we read and may we share good news among us. Help us to see hope and beauty in our world. Bless our carriers and keep them safe in their deliveries. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

September 5, 2025
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? (Matthew 6:26-27)
Comforting God, today we celebrate International Day of Charity and recognize all the work that charities do locally and globally. For churches that are actively offering community programs and support, may we take some extra time to learn about them and to make a financial contribution to encourage them to continue doing what they do. Bless all our charities, their staff and volunteers, and participants and clients in all that they do. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

September 6, 2025
For the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’ (Revelation 7:17)
On Saturdays we pray for children and families and we think of all the things that have gone on this week as school starts back up. We pray for parents who are now empty-nesters and pray that they can enjoy the change, while preparing for their student to come back home for a visit (and laundry, and food). God, we ask for safety for all our students as they travel back to school. We pray that families can find the support they need. We pray that we can also be involved in being a support for them. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

September 7, 2025
“Six days you shall labour, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest.” (Exodus 34:21)
Today we pray for those of us in hospital or hospice. We pray that they are receiving the care and compassion they need. We pray for healing and peace, comfort and grace, and love and connection. Be with all the staff in their calling, knowing that we know the work is challenging and we support them in all that they do. God, bless our caregivers and our patients. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

365 Days of Prayer: August 25 to August 31, 2025

8/15/2025

August 25, 2025
And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” (Isaiah 6:3)
Creating God, on the 25th of each month we pray for those who have died and those who grieve. We give thanks for the friends who have been in our lives and for all the contributions and memories we made together. God, may they rest in peace. Offer us comfort in our mourning. God, we also pray for those being called to apply to serve in the Canadian Forces and may they know that it is a place of equal employment for all. We pray for those who lost their lives in service to you and our country and those who mourn them. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 26, 2025
God came from Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran. His glory covered the heavens and his praise filled the earth. His splendour was like the sunrise; rays flashed from his hand, where his power was hidden. (Habakkuk 3:3-4)
God of Equality, today we celebrate how far women have come in rights and equality. We give thanks for the things women can do now that they couldn’t before. But God, help us to be mindful of balance and equity for all men and women, especially those who are parents. May we find employment that offers us time with our families and in our communities. May our rights never be taken for granted and may we continue to work towards an even more equitable world.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 27, 2025
“Many nations will be joined with the Lord in that day and will become my people. I will live among you and you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you.” (Zechariah 2:11)
Today is Just Because Day, and just for that, we give thanks for this day. We give thanks for the adventures and the boredom we may encounter. We give thanks for the chores and the laziness. We give thanks for entertainment and restfulness, families and playfulness, and the sunshine that surrounds us in the summer months. God, thank you for the gift of breath, the gift of life, and the gift of your love. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 28, 2025
“Look, he is coming with the clouds,” and “every eye will see him, even those who pierced him”; and all the peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.” So shall it be! Amen (Revelation 1:7)
Loving God, as summer break comes closer to the end and fall fairs emerge, be with those who are planning and working/volunteering at the fairs. May families find new joy in attending and may we create a stronger bond together, just in playing together at the fair. Be with those who enter the contests for various prizes and for those who are sharing their talents or selling their wares. May everyone have safe travel and great joy this coming long weekend. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 29, 2025
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. (Psalms 19:1)
Comforting God, on this last long weekend of the summer, keep us safe on the roads and safe as we venture out. Keep us safe on the water and grant us playfulness at the beach. Where we are gathering with friends and family, help us create new memories together. For those who can’t get out, may we bring the adventures to them as we mark the end of the summer break. Be in our hearts for playfulness and rest. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 30, 2025
“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone – while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?” (Job 38:4-7)
On Saturdays we pray for children and families. We pray for all who are venturing out to the demolition derbies today and for the fun to be had at the Orangeville Fall Fair. Give us permission to be like children and join in the fun. Let us set aside any expectations and just live into the moment together, letting our child-like hearts and the children around us lead the way. God, we give thanks for events around us that create an atmosphere of fun and learning. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 31, 2025
“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:2-3)
Today we worship online only as many in our community volunteer or are taking in the Orangeville Fall Fair. God, we know that church is more than just a building, so help us to bring the church of our hearts into the atmosphere at the fair, sharing your light and love with everyone. May we be helpful and encouraging. May we be bold in trying something new. And God, help us to take in all that folks have put together this year for our community and offer them our thanks. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

365 Days of Prayer: August 18 to August 24, 2025

8/15/2025

August 18, 2025
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. (James 1:27)
Creating God, on this “Never Give Up Day,” help us to help ourselves and/or others who are struggling with something. May we go in understanding we can’t fix everything, but we can always be present. Help us to encourage each other in the things we’re trying to accomplish in life and to find hope within the struggles. May we never give up hoping for a better world.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 19, 2025
For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed – a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” (Romans 1:17)
Ever-Present God, thank you for those who serve in humanitarian causes. We give thanks for their willingness to go into crises around the world and to offer a helping hand. We pray for the medics, the suppliers, and the world as a whole who offers finances and supplies to help recovery efforts and to help bring harmony to our world. Be with them in safety and perseverance. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 20, 2025
To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne. (Revelation 3:21)
Today we celebrate medical transporters and their work. We give thanks for their call and their support of patients and their loved ones. We give thanks for those who solely work on transporting donated organs and tissue to encourage more life in others. God, keep them all safe in their travels and may we pull aside when we hear their sirens and see their lights. We give thanks, O God, that they are there for us in our time of need. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 21, 2025
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
Loving God, in the US it is National Seniors Day, and I think it’s very okay to celebrate our seniors more than once a year. So, thank you for the seniors in our lives, for the wisdom they impart, the humour they share, and their willingness to put up with the shenanigans of the younger ones around them. Help us to be strong as an intergenerational community so that we can continue to create a better world together. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 22, 2025
In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accomplished by action, is dead. (James 2:17)
Comforting God, today is a day we recognize those who have lost babies in pregnancy and babies born sleeping. Be with all who have suffered such a loss and may they know their grief sits with us too. We celebrate the rainbow babies born afterwards that bring joy and hope to their families. God, be with all who are mourning and help us to be present in another’s grief. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 23, 2025
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)
On Saturdays we pray for children and families and we give thanks for their life and presence around us. Help us to be creative and look for ways we can meet the needs of families so we can offer support and community. Be with families who are struggling and those who are fighting with systems to get the services they need for their child. Help us to be a community that helps raise children safely, kindly, and compassionately. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 24, 2025
Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. (1 Chronicles 16:10)
Today is William Wilberforce Day. It’s a day to recognize the efforts of abolishing slavery and slave trade. God, I’m so glad I didn’t live in that time where that was the normal way of life, but I also recognize that it will have an impact for generations. Help us to be kind to one another, to learn and grow together, and to be mindful that even though something isn’t happening the same now, it can still be happening in different ways. God, be with us as we continue to evolve. Thank you for your love. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

365 Days of Prayer: August 11 to August 17, 2025

8/10/2025

August 11, 2025
My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. (Psalms 119:28)
Creating God, we give you thanks for beaches and sand, for playgrounds and lounge chairs. Thank you for this summer and the heat, though some of us are praying for a little less heat. On this “Play in the Sand Day”, remind us what it’s like to build sandcastles and play with something that can create so much. Be in us whether we’re artists or not. Give us permission to be like children, even just for a moment each day. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 12, 2025
Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Saviour. (Habakkuk 3:17-18)
Holy God, on this International Youth Day, be in our young people and inspire them to make wise choices. Give them strength to call out injustices and to be creative to create new ways of doing things. Help us to encourage their energy and their passions, and may we guide them the best way we can. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 13, 2025
Lord, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress. (Isaiah 33:2)
Today we pray for an end to bullying. God, we can be bullies anywhere in life. Help us to choose not to be one. Give strength to those who see bullying behaviours within us so they can tell us, especially if we cannot see it ourselves. May we choose kindness over anger, patience over hastiness, and love over hatred. Help us to learn to live in harmony with one another, even if our paths are laid out differently. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 14, 2025
May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word. (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17)
Loving God, today we honour the National Spirit of 1945 Day, where there was a unity that held people together after WWII. I pray that we never have to live through a war in this generation, but if we can live with that same spirit of unity every day as they did, we might find ourselves in a better place. Help us to move from being a shaming community to being one who lifts up one another. God, be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 15, 2025
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. (Psalms 147:3)
Comforting God, our world is filled with greatness and we celebrate that today. Be in us as we discover great things that we knew already existed but now see it from a different perspective. We give thanks for the innovation and creativity in our world, for the risk-taking and the leadership, and the ones who stand up so bravely against all odds.  Help us to be like Jesus to create a world of hope, free of pain and suffering, and abundant in community care and love. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 16, 2025
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:2-4)
On Saturdays we pray for children and families. Today is International Geocaching Day and we encourage families to get out and find an adventure today. We pray for all who are caring for young ones in their midst and all who are preparing to send some off to school. May the adventures of our lives continue to share your light and love, your courage and your presence, with all who come among us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 17, 2025
For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. (1 Corinthians 13:12)
Today is Baby Boomers Recognition Day and how fitting it is that we’re celebrating Elvis Presley’s life and music within it. God, be with those who have built the country, systems and services we benefit from. For the things that need changes to meet the needs of today, be within those who can do the work. But may our Baby Boomers know they are loved and appreciated for all they do. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

365 Days of Prayer: August 4 to August 10, 2025

8/3/2025

August 4, 2025
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
Creating God, today is Terry Fox Day and we celebrate his commitment and determination to help raise awareness and funds for cancer research. We give thanks for his life and sacrifice so that we can all continue his work beyond his life. Surround all of us who are living with and/or working hard to eradicate cancer. Help us to remember him and honour his legacy as we strive to live in a cancer-free world. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 5, 2025
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace. (Ephesians 1:7)
God, thank you for inspiring innovation around us. Today is Traffic Light Day and I wonder what our world would be like if these did not exist. We give thanks for all the traffic guidance that is clear and understandable regardless of language or creed. May we be safe on our roads and keep us alert as we travel. Be with those who travel through our area on the way to cottages and may they be mindful of the residents who are here. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 6, 2025
And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive your sins. (Mark 11:25)
Today we pray for Professional Engineers. Be with them as they do the calculations and planning to keep our spaces safe from harm. Be with them in innovation and creativity and gift them with insight if there may be a problem that even the guidelines can’t see, so they can plan and create accordingly.  We give you thanks for their wisdom and commitment to building a better world. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 7, 2025
As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. (Psalms 103:12)
Loving God, today we pray for all who care for those wiser in years and more experienced in body. We pray they have compassion and empathy for those they care for. We pray they have time to listen and connect with folks and that they can share memories and light together. God, it is a special calling to serve our seniors when they need extra care. May they know that we appreciate them and are here to cheer them on and offer our support as we can. God, be with them. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 8, 2025
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you are believed and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. (Romans 10:9-10)
Fun-loving God, it is today that I learned of this “sneak a zucchini onto your neighbour’s porch day” and pray that anyone who attempts to do so, does so well and with good intentions. We give you thanks for the harvests in our gardens and for the blessings in our lives. We give you thanks for the love and fun we can have with one another. And we pray that relationships continue to build in good ways through all our years to come. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 9, 2025
A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense. (Proverbs 19:11)
On Saturdays we pray for children and families and think of those connected to us and those we may never get to know. Help us to hold each other in light and love, even if we don’t understand the generation that is blossoming into teenagers and adulthood. Today is ‘hold a hand day’ and we pray that we might have the opportunity to hold a young person’s hand in love and support or even an older person’s hand in care and love. Be with us as we intentionally hold each other up in various ways. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

August 10, 2025
For no one is cast off by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. (Lamentations 3:31-32)
Today is National Lazy Day and though I normally pray we can celebrate and participate in such a day, I do pray that folks will come to church first and then participate in the laziness. As we celebrate the life and music of Johnny Cash today, God be with us in our learning and in our singing. Be with us as we dive into his life story and may we find a helpful connection along the way. Bless our church and our church family. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
