365 Days of Prayer: May 26 to June 1, 2025

5/25/2025

May 26, 2025
May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful! (Proverbs 23:25)
Today, I feel a little selfish, God. Today is World Redhead Day and I celebrate with my ginger brothers and sisters around the world. I pray for healing in everyone who was called carrot top in their younger days. I pray for wisdom and strength, and a lack of sunburns as the weather gets warmer and the sun kisses our skin. Be with all folks today, regardless of hair colour or amount of hair. May we all embrace your love and grace. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 27, 2025
And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour” (Luke 1:46-47)
God, today is Nothing to Fear Day, and I know that there are many who live in fear or fear surrounds them. May we confront the fears we can possibly control. May we pray for guidance and wisdom in the fears we can’t. And may we ask for friends to be with us when a fear is too big but still needs to be addressed. God, take our fears and turn them into glorious victories for your light and love. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 28, 2025
Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. (Proverbs 22:6)
God, on this World Hunger Day, may we take account of the blessings we have. May we be mindful of the times we have struggled and what it looked like to put food on the table. May we be mindful that income and expenses are very different than they were 10 years or more ago. Where we are called, help us to explore and research systems in society that could be improved or completely changed so that everyone can have food on their table. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 29, 2025
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. (Colossians 3:20)
God, thank you for interesting things I didn’t know. Today is “Put a Pillow in Your Fridge Day” and as much as it seems silly, it has been done to gain some luck since about the early 1900s. God, may we have room to put our pillow in the fridge. And may we find ourselves luckier in the tradition. But God, we know that you have us in the palm of your hands in the good and bad times of life. Grant us luck, but help us in health, wisdom, and finances so we can be all that you long for us to be in our world. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 30, 2025
But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children. (Psalms 103:17)
Today, O God, we are reminded of a song, “There’s a Hole in My Bucket,” and today’s the day to celebrate it. As I explore the song again, it helps me to remember that we aren’t here to fix everything and everyone, but to help them figure out how to do it themselves. We are not here to convert, but to show the way. We are not here to judge, but to offer light and love, and maybe a map to show there are different ways to get to a destination. Thank you for this song and thank you for your love. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 31, 2025
For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! (Romans 5:10)
On Saturdays we pray for children and families. This week is National Children’s Gardening Week, and we pray that children can learn a love and a respect for nature. May they learn that they can help create beautiful things, they can nurture something that can grow, and they can be one with the earth. God be with all our children. Keep them curious and kind. May they learn empathy and compassion along the way. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

June 1, 2025
Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body. (Hebrews 10:19-20)
Today in church, we celebrate Rory’s baptism. Bless Rory and his family today and all their days to come. Today is also “Stand for Children Day.” Help us to remember that children of today are also the church of today. What they learn and experience can help them participate in the life of church and community now. It helps to foster who they will become and what the Spirit leads them to in the future. May we be welcoming and loving, sharing joy and wonderment with them. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

365 Days of Prayer: May 19 to May 25, 2025

5/18/2025

May 19, 2025
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. (Acts 2:4)
Today we celebrate Malcolm X and those who fight for civil rights around the world. God, help us to learn about the privileges we have, the rights we may still have to work to gain, and for equity for all. May we put aside our egos and our understandings so we can work to further equal rights and opportunities for all. Be in our hearts for social justice. Be within us for courage and strength. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 20, 2025
After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly. (Acts 4:31)
God of great love, be in all our hearts as we live out our lives. The world can be a very unkind place, and we may need your help navigating it with grace and love. Where we see someone being harmed, help us to help them. Where we see an injustice, help us to question and to further a conversation. Where we see loneliness, help us to be a friend. Fill our hearts with your Spirit of peace, love and justice throughout all our days. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 21, 2025
Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. (John 3:5)
God of all, today is “World Day for Cultural Diversity,” and we ask you to be in our hearts. Give us innocent curiosity, permission to ask questions, and courage to try something new. May we see the landscape of diversity that surrounds us and be intentional about learning something new so we can try to better connect with our neighbours. Remind us that not all cultures have the same understandings of how to be in our world and may we learn and grow stronger together. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 22, 2025
And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. (Romans 5:5)
As I learn about Harvey Milk Day, grant grace in my heart. For those who, like Harvey, worked diligently for the rights of the LGBTQ2S community, may they be received with open ears and curious hearts. For our friends and family who are in the closet, may they feel comfortable sharing with someone they trust. I pray that person is me. For those who are living openly, may they not live in fear and may they be surrounded by friends and allies. God be in our changing world, and soften our hearts as we grow. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 23, 2025
What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. (1 Corinthians 2:12)
Today, O God, we pray for the world. We pray that roads are free of drivers under the influence and free of road rage. We pray that our friends who live with mental illness have someone reaching out to them and the help they seek. We pray that our friends who are dying, have peace. For our friends who are sick, heal quickly. And our friends who are lost in this world, find a path with guidance. Shine your light brightly on our world and in our hearts, O God. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 24, 2025
Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts,
the spirit calls out, “Abba, Father.” (Galatians 4:6)
On Saturdays we pray for children and families. For those with the littlest ones in their lives, grant the adults patience and grace. May they be kind to themselves as they navigate the complicated world of parenting. Be in children near and far, that they have what they need and good influences surround them. May they all know hope and love, joy and comfort.  May they tap into a community that can help them as they grow. Be in us as we strive to be that community. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 25, 2025
“Honour your father and your mother, so that you may live long
in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” (Exodus 20:12)
On the 25th of the month, we focus our prayers on those who have died. God, be in our hearts as we miss them and may their spirits feel our love. Be with those of us who have lost loved ones and be in our hearts as we live our days with them around us. Be with the spirits of those who have died and may they rest in peace. God, hold us all in the comfort of your love until we see each other again. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

365 Days of Prayer: May 12 to May 18, 2025

5/9/2025

May 12, 2025
The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. (Psalms 147:11)
Today we pray for the women in our lives, O God. We celebrated Mother’s Day yesterday and we pray our ladies surround us for many years to come. Help us to encourage them to take care of themselves as they take care of so many of us. May we encourage them to be mindful of their physical, spiritual, and mental health and may we support them in the ways you call us to. God be with the women of the world. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 13, 2025
Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. (Psalms 143:10)
Today, we pray for ourselves, O God. Help us to follow you and to trust that you are leading us on paths that are meaningful and good. May we honour you by letting go of control, especially when we think we need to be in control. Where we struggle, sit with us and listen to the things that are stirring within, and offer your calm presence so we can gain clarity.  God, be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 14, 2025
And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills. (Exodus 31:3)
Loving God, today is “Donate a Day’s Wages to Charity Day.” We think of all the organizations that are doing meaningful work and may feel overwhelmed in planning what to do. Guide us and continue to bless those who are serving in all that they do. May we think beyond ourselves and our own needs as often as possible, in hopes of creating a more harmonious community and world. And where we can, may we participate in this day, donating where and as our hearts call us to. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 15, 2025
But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the Lord, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, to Israel his sin. (Micah 3:8)
Justice-seeking God, today is National Senior Fraud Awareness Day and we pray that all are safe in our world. Be in us to take time to learn and grow in our understanding of what fraud looks like in our world today. Surround us with people who can look at technological things we may be wondering about. Be in us as we share stories. And give us strength to ask for help if we’re unsure if something was legitimate or not.  We pray all are safe and free from harm.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 16, 2025
“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. (Joel 2:28-29)
Today, we think of our neighbours. God, we know that you are in all things and in all times, and ask you to help us to see you in the neighbours we agree and disagree with. Help us to knock on the door of those who live next to us and to say hello. Help us to think of doing something kind for them, even if it’s as simple as dropping a card off so they can remember our names when we see each other. Give us courage to say hello and to strengthen our communities. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 17, 2025
I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49)
On Saturdays we often pray for children, youth, and families. God of all ages, help us to put assumptions aside on what families are like today as compared to yesterday. Help us to be present and supportive in the ways they need us, and not in the ways we think they need us. May we always be a welcoming presence, encouraging families in all they’re experiencing. May they know they are not alone and that they are loved and appreciated. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 18, 2025
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
Worshipful God, on this Rural Life Sunday, we’ll be celebrating Holy Humour in church. As a rural church with a different way of being, help us to laugh at life and ourselves at times. It can help us get through the tougher times in life. Help us to continue to thrive and grow in our welcoming and in our ministry so that we can share the legacy of rural ministry with others. May your Spirit be with us all today as we gather for worship. And God, keep us safe as we travel there. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

365 Days of Prayer: May 5 to May 11, 2025

5/3/2025

May 5, 2025
This, then, is how you should pray: “’Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,”  (Matthew 6:9)
As we recognize National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, God, be with families and communities that are directly impacted. We pray that justice will prevail. We pray that the missing and murdered will be found. We pray that all our brothers and sisters can live safely in our world. We pray for an end to evil. Cast the devil out, wherever it lives, O God. May your light and love overcome all. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 6, 2025
Then I said: “Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments,” (Nehemiah 1:5)
Today, we honour all the teachers that have helped us to grow and learn. We pray for teachers who struggle with the needs they try to meet in their classrooms. We pray for their well-being, their love, their passion, and their compassion. May we support teachers by checking in on them, seeing if we can help provide supplies, and to just be a friend. May they be counting down the days to the summer break, and having fun while they nurture our little ones. Be with them in their special calling. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 7, 2025
For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. (Psalms 33:4)
Loving God, we pray for Children and their mental health today. We know the world is ever-changing and it seems to never stop. Help us to see through the eyes of the children around us and into their hearts and souls. May we ask them how they’re doing. May we ask them about any challenges they’re having and any challenges they’ve overcome. May we ask them what wishes they have. Help us, O God, to guide and nurture them. Help us just to listen. And may we never take any of what they say for granted or cast their words aside. They may be telling us something more. God be with us all.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 8, 2025
Lord, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us. (Isaiah 26:12)
Serving God, we pray for the Red Cross around the world today. They serve many who experience natural disasters and destruction in many places with different people. We pray for all who help by being boots on the ground. We pray for all who support them. We pray for those who navigate the logistics to get basic supplies to communities. God, help us to discover how we can be The Red Cross in our own communities, in our own neighbourhoods, and in our own families. Keep connecting us in meaningful ways, so we can be prepared as best as we can. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 9, 2025
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Luke 12:34)
Today, our Chinese families celebrate Cap Go Meh. Today they celebrate in marking the end of the New Year festivities. The celebration invites good fortune and happiness in the coming year while also honouring ancestors and seeking their blessing. It’s a day to celebrate family bonds and community connections. God, for those who are celebrating, may they feel our joy with them. For those who aren’t celebrating, may we pray about our own family and community connections. May we strive to make them stronger and more meaningful so that we can be better together. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 10, 2025
The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life. (Job 33:4)
On Saturdays, we pray for children and families. We honour the busy schedules and recognize the expectations of what needs to be accomplished are so high. Help them, O God, to take a little time for themselves. Help them rest. May they be nurtured in body, mind, and soul. For friends who live with worry because of high costs and low incomes, may we hear their pleas. Help us to serve our neighbours well. Help us to be there for them, honouring dignity and humility. God, may everyone know they are loved. Provide for them, through us and our neighbours, we pray. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 11, 2025
And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all you need, you will abound in every good work. (2 Corinthians 9:8)
Worshipful God, as we gather to sing, pray, and worship you today, be in our church building and in all our souls. May your light and love shine brightly from within us. Today, we pray for all who are mothers to us in our lives. By blood or by friendship, they helped us to become who we are today. May they know they are loved. May they know we appreciate all they have done for us. And may we ask for forgiveness for all those things we did (or do) that drive them crazy.  God, thank you for being a loving parent to all, especially to those who need you most. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
