365 Days of Prayer: April 28 to May 4, 2025

4/27/2025

April 28, 2025
The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? (Psalms 118:6)
Powerful and mighty God, thank you for Superheroes in our lives. We thank you for those who protect us, who help us to stay healthy, and who continue to advocate and/or work with us to maintain meaningful lives. We give thanks to our police officers, firefighters, doctors and nurses, clinicians, therapists, community members who do everything they can when we’re in need, educators and mentors, parents and friends, and those who have ensured that the tools and staff needed to support us, exist. God, be with us when we need them and when we are them. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 29, 2025
For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4)
Today we pray for our hopes, dreams, and wishes, O God. We pray for the things we’ve wanted to do but haven’t quite done. We pray for the hope that maybe we should have but it’s hard to find. God, may we take a dream or wish and wonder how to make it a reality. We give these all over to you, knowing that nothing is impossible with you. ALL things are possible. Even the silliest of dreams. Help us to be okay with being vulnerable enough to try. And if we hear a no, or are discouraged in trying, may we take that as a challenge to try even harder. With you, even the smallest dreams can become big changemakers. Be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 30, 2025
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. (Proverbs 19:21)
Loving God, Holy Parent, today is the Day of the Child and we celebrate all they are to us. We give thanks for their unpredictability at times, for the mess and chaos, and for the way they keep us on our toes. We pray that we help them not to grow up too quickly. We pray they are protected from evil and harm. We pray that they have good health and beautiful spirits. Where we can do more to encourage and foster the beauty of the inner child within them and us, help us to do so, God. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 1, 2025
Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you. (Exodus 23:25)
Creative and Creating God, we give you thanks for stories in our lives. Many of us grew up with Mother Goose stories and share them with those who come after us. Thank you for the creativity you instill in us and encourage us to be storytellers through all our lives. May we see new things in the old stories. May we hear stories we’ve never heard before. Help us to relive a little childhood memory or time today in some way. God, thanks for those who shared Mother Goose stories with us in our youth and for encouraging others to transform them into little songs for children. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 2, 2025
“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” (Daniel 3:17-18)
Life-Giving God, we thank you for brothers and sisters today. We thank you for the gifts they bring to our lives and the challenges we learn and grow from. May they know they are loved. Where we struggle with a relationship, help us to pray for them today. May we pray for good things like their health, their soul, and their spirit. May we pray that their path is good and is one that is kind and compassionate to others. Where we love our siblings to the moon and back, may they feel us smother them with hugs and kisses from wherever we are. Thank you, God, for family.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 3, 2025
This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord.” (Jeremiah 17:5)
Today we pray for children and youth, loving Creator. It’s Free Comic Book Day and may we all release the inner child within to reconnect with comics or something else we enjoyed in our youth. Help us to share what we enjoyed with the children around us. Maybe they’ll learn something new. Maybe they’ll make us feel old. But help us to remember that in sharing, we are connecting. In connecting, we are helping them to further their trust in us. May they know we are here when they need us. God, give them courage to ask for help and to share their authentic selves with us all our days. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

May 4, 2025
Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying: “’Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.’” (Revelation 4:8)
On this “May the 4th Be With You” day, we pray that your spirit is around us today. May the force of your positivity, encouragement, hope, and desires be set within our hearts. As we gather for worship today, may neighbours who are curious but anxious to come to church, feel peace overwhelm them so they can try a church out. May we be welcoming and kind, compassionate and empathetic to all who enter our doors today. And God, is it okay if we laugh in worship today? Be with us wherever we are and in whatever we do. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

365 Days of Prayer: April 21 to April 27, 2025

4/19/2025

April 21, 2025
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin.  Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these.” (Matthew 6:28-29)
On this Easter Monday, grant us time to rest and to take time to be with family and friends. May we think about resurrecting something within that brings joy or excitement within ourselves. Be it a hobby, joining a club or team or choir, or making time to read a book we loved the first few times. We ask you to be in us O God as we continue our earthly journey and we commit to looking for you in everyone and everything we encounter. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 22, 2025
“Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits – who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,” (Psalms 103:2-3)
Today we pray for the earth, O God. We give thanks for all the life that exists on this planet and pray that we find new and creative ways to take care of it. As we honour Earth Day today, may we take note of what we do, what we use, and how we exist within all that is around us. May we note the things that are unhealthy to us and the earth and have conversations with others on what we can do differently.  Grant us the will and perseverance to make change in our time. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 23, 2025
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7)
Around the world, many are taking part in World Book Night. Help us to open a book and to take on the adventure that awaits us within its’ pages. May we consider opening our Bible and taking in a chapter that may help our souls. Maybe we’ll head to a library and see what’s new on the shelves. God, help us dive into reading to keep our imaginations alive and your creativity in our souls. Help us to learn, to enjoy, or to grow with whatever book we read. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 24, 2025
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2)
God of time, we give thanks for each day we are gifted in life. We give thanks for peace and diplomacy that surrounds us.  We are aware that it does not exist everywhere.  Challenge us to find different ways to live out peaceful ways of conflict resolution, and better decision-making ways. Challenge us to see how other places do peace and diplomacy too.  As we celebrate Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace Day, may we learn something new on how we are in our world, and how we can be better. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 25, 2025
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)
On the 25th of each month, we make time and space to pray for those who have died. As we just passed through the season of Easter, we pray for Jesus and his disciples. We pray for all who were personally impacted by Jesus’ ministry in his time. We pray for all our loved ones, and those we prayed for but never knew.  God, we pray they are fully restored, at your side, enjoying their spiritual selves while guiding and guarding us.  May we feel their presence around us, especially when we miss them most. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 26, 2025
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. (Acts 3:19)
God of intergenerational communities, be with folks of all ages in our midst. We focus on children, youth, and families today, understanding parenting continues to change. We understand that being a child or youth also looks differently in this world of technology and non-stop connections. Help us not to judge or jump to conclusions about their isolation but celebrate when they are online with friends and families. Help all of us to be safe, to be cautious of those we do not know, and not to be afraid to talk to a friend if a connection seems unsafe. Help us be better together. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 27, 2025
But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, “Salvation comes from the Lord.” (Jonah 2:9)
O Holy One, as we gather as church today, may we feel your presence and love guiding us. We pray that Your Word inspires and encourages us to bring gentle surprises in the lives of those around us. Help us to be good stewards of your love, grace, and mercy. We pray for forgiveness where we are going wrong, and rely on the Spirit to bring us back onto the path you lay out for us. We understand that the best lessons are learned when things go wrong, so help us to be kind and graceful with ourselves in the learning. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

365 Days of Prayer: April 14 to 20, 2025

4/13/2025

April 14, 2025
“And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. He said to them, ‘It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers’” (Matthew 21:12-13)
On this Holy Monday of Holy Week, we think of Jesus’ life and impact he made with those around him. We remember who he was and what he stood for. As we remember his life, may we honour him by remembering that we can all make a difference in this world. What do you hope to accomplish or be a big impact on in your lifetime?  God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 15, 2025
“‘Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him’” (Matthew 24:42-44)
On this Holy Tuesday, we are reminded that Jesus asks us to always be ready. What does being ready mean for each of us? What do we still have to do? As we journey through Holy Week, I pray that each of us feels the story of Jesus life in our hearts. God, keep us whole and healthy. May we know we are loved. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 16, 2025
“...the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people. Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. They were delighted and agreed to give him money. He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present” (Luke 22:2-6)
On this Holy Wednesday, known as Spy Wednesday, I ask God to keep our hearts pure and free of corruption. God, be in our business, school, and world leaders that they hold the needs of the people in the core of their hearts and not their own personal agendas. I pray for a world where everyone has what they need and no one goes without. May we honour Jesus in being the best of who we can be for each other. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 17, 2025
“While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, ‘Take it; this is my body.’ Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it. ‘This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many,’ he said to them. ‘Truly I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.’ When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives” (Mark 14:22-26)
On this Maundy Thursday, we remember the night Jesus shared a meal with his friends and asked them to remember him. God, what if we remembered Jesus at every meal? What if we talked about the things that mattered and worked together toward a better world? What is the best way to remember our beloved Jesus? God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 18, 2025
“It was nine in the morning when they crucified him. The written notice of the charge against him read: the king of the jews … With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, ‘Surely this man was the Son of God!’” (Mark 15:25-26, 37-39)
Today is Good Friday, the day that we remember Jesus’ crucifixion and death. We remember that the crowd chose someone else to live over Jesus. We remember Jesus asking God for the forgiveness of those who condemn and kill him. We remember his friends and loved ones being present in a passive way. How can we do and be better in our world for those who are condemned without cause?  God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 19, 2025
“The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment” (Luke 23:55-56)
On this Holy Saturday, our online service will focus on remembering loved ones who have passed, just as we remember Jesus’ passing. Today we also pray for children, youth, and their families as we want good things for their lives. God, help us all to remember that spirituality is a big part of being whole, and that we can help others learn about their spiritual selves. May we do so playfully and prayerfully.  God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 20, 2025
“Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, ‘Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?’ But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. ‘Don’t be alarmed,’ he said. ‘You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him’” (Mark 16:2-6)
God, on this Resurrection Sunday, help us to celebrate that Jesus’ love and guidance lives forever. That it may look different, or we may understand it differently over the course of our years, but that it is constant. Help us to think of things that die and are reborn all around us, so we can find hope in our trials. May what we understand where there is an end, there is always a new beginning. God be in us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

365 Days of Prayer: April 7 to April 13, 2025

4/6/2025

April 7, 2025
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27)
God, it’s like you were reading my mind today when we were presented with “National No Housework Day.”  Thank you for the gift and permission of eating off paper plates and letting the house just be, well, if it can be. May we take that time, instead, to reach into our hearts and rest in you.  Maybe we can even take a few moments and empty the deepest parts of our souls to you in prayer and be ready for the mystery of your response. God, thank you for another Monday. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 8, 2025
This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. (Matthew 26:28)
On a day where our reading asks us to celebrate Communion in remembrance of our Saviour, help us to be intentional as we eat. May we celebrate the creation of those who farm so we can eat. We give thanks for their gifts and skills, their perseverance and their connection with the earth and animals. May we take time to offer a farmer a genuine gesture of thanks – even in a social media post. Thank you, O God, for all of creation. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 9, 2025
But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” (Mark 14:61-62)
Gracious God, you are mysteriously and wonderfully at work in the world. Today’s scripture ties in so well with the International Day of Pink – fighting against bullying, discrimination, and more. May we all be accepted as we are and not shamed or bullied by others. Help us to remain focused on the good in the world, calling others into account when they harm others. Be in our souls and transform our ways of being.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 10, 2025
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
God, you grant us another reading tied in with another important day where we “Erase Self-Negativity.” Help us to let go of the old way of thinking of ourselves and taking to ourselves. Though it will take some work, may we hear your voice within as our cheerleader. Help us to become our greatest hero and cheerleader so that we can be the best of who you call and know us to be. When negativity starts to sneak in, may we tell it to go away. May we tell it that it has no place here. And may we truly learn to love ourselves as you love us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 11, 2025
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. (Isaiah 43:19)
Loving God, today we give thanks that it is “National Living Donor Day” and for those who give of themselves so that others can live. For those of us who hesitate, grant us the courage to research and ask questions. Surround us with people who have lived experience. May we even consider the smallest of donations that has the biggest impact – donating blood. We give thanks for those who have been matched and have given more life to another. Help us to discern if and where we can help or where we can help raise awareness. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 12, 2025
For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance – now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant. (Hebrews 9:15)
God, on Saturdays we usually pray for children and youth. We ask you to be in them, in their curiosity, and help direct them on their life journey.  Today is “National Only Child Day” and we are blessed that we can call so many only children our brothers and sisters so they feel like they are part of a bigger family. In my heart of hearts, O God, I’m asking for families around us who have been longing for community connection, to reach out and try a church on for size. May they feel welcomed and at home.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 13, 2025
I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 11:19)
God, today many Christians around the world are celebrating Palm Sunday. It is the beginning of Holy Week. We give thanks for the celebration Jesus received when he rode into town. We give thanks that so many learned and knew about the things he was able to do and the impact he made on communities.  As we journey through the darkest part of the Christian story this week, be in our hearts. Help us to find a few extra moments each day for prayer. May we offer to you our thoughts of what and who we might be in the stories that lead us through this week. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
