Loving God, as we hear of Groundhog Willie’s predictions today, we pray for sunshine, for warmer days, and snow that is great to build snowmen with. We pray that all who live with Seasonal Affective Disorder have the tools and support needed to get through to spring and may we offer opportunities to spread light and love their way. God, give us hope, warmth, and comfort. And thank you for giving us Groundhogs we can blame if winter gets to be way too long. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Loving God, today is Elmo’s birthday! Thank you for his giggles and teachings and the joy he shares with children. For all Sesame Street has done for our children (including us much older children), we give thanks. We pray their ministry of education continues for generations to come, teaching us all how to be better people today and tomorrow. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Loving God, today is Facebook’s birthday! 22 years of learning, scrolling, and connecting. What used to be a young person’s connection is now keeping older folks connected. We give thanks for all the positives Facebook brings to our lives and pray that the negatives fall to the wayside and our outweighed by the light in the world. God, keep us critical of what we read, mindful of when it’s too much for our souls, and when we need to reach out for help or support from a wider community. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Loving God, today is Optimist Day and I pray the positivity is abundant wherever we go. May those of us who live in the ‘default to negative’ ways of thinking work hard to live into a ‘default to positivity.’ May we think the best of people when the world wants us to think the worst. May we find hope when things are hopeless. Help us, O God, to see the possibilities and the opportunities when faced with a challenge or an obstacle. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Loving God, it’s National 80’s Day and I pray we can find all the fluorescent clothes we had and pull them out. May we surprise our loved ones with wild hair, songs from the past, and dances that have been out of style for quite some time. Grant us permission to have a little fun, be a little silly, and share stories of the 80’s with friends and loved ones. God, thank you that the 80’s are over though, and that they are never gone. Loving God, as we pray for children and families on Saturdays, today is Take Your Child to the Library Day. Our local libraries offer quite a lot of fun and opportunities for families to have adventures, read together, and do things they may not be able to do ordinarily through borrowing and using tools and so much more. Nudge our hearts to take time to go and explore what we can do as families as we support our libraries. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Loving God, Superbowl Sunday, we pray for a more united community even if we root for different teams. May the love of sport bring us together, putting aside the political climate, even if it’s only for a few hours. Remind us that we are bigger than the darkness, that our voices can and do make a difference, and that your world and will need our light and love everyday. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. We pray for dignity, compassion, and respect for all human life. We pray for understanding and an appreciation for diversity. God, we long for your hope to be seen in the news. Creating God, today is LEGO Day and I pray we have permission to get those little pieces out and create something. Spark within us good childhood memories, creativity, and connection. We give thanks for the innovation that went and continues to go into LEGO and the many sets we can invest in. Thank you for such a simple tool to do so much learning with. We pray for those who may be tired, that they have the energy to make it out so we can infuse them with our extra energy to get through the night. We pray for children and families on Saturdays.
Parenting God, today is about using art to inspire our hearts, and so we pray that the many forms of art are used to express ourselves today. May we use it when it’s hard to come up with words. May we share our love of art with each other, and to treasure crafts made for years to come. We pray that families can create art together, creating and sustaining a unique bond in a special way. But God, for our families who are no longer together, we pray that they feel connected and supported, no matter what. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

On the first day of the month, we pray for Truth & Reconciliation.
Rising God, today is National Get Up Day, where we encourage each other to rise and get things done. I wonder what we can do in our church and our community to continue the work of Truth & Reconciliation. For now, I pray you direct our hearts to do what we should be doing. I pray for an end to stereo-typing, racism, inequity, and inaccurate story-telling. I pray we are continuously curious to learn truths so we can live with a deeper sense of compassion and empathy for all. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

I pray that your love and hope opens us up to their stories so we can grow further into your divine acceptance of all. God, help us. Teach us. Guide us. May we find people to lean on when things are tough, and may we be a rock for someone who needs our strength. Mothering God, today is Maternal Health Awareness Day. We pray for all expecting moms and the care they receive. Parenting God, we pray for families on Saturdays. On this National Compliment Day, I pray that we take time to offer our little ones (no matter how old they are now), some words of kindness, encouragement, and love. I pray that we can do the same with our life partners, friends, and even our pets. In a world where negativity is the default, may we be the ones to flip the switch and put positivity in that place. For those who are feeling like they just keep getting torn down, may we have the strength and light to lift them up. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

I wonder about the mom who wants to be a rockstar, the dad who wants to be a Michelin chef, the teenager longing to publish a book, or the child who strives to win a race. Whatever our dreams are, may we hold them and share them with you. You are the God of the impossible. Regardless of age and ability, you can make things happen. God, grant us open hearts and minds as we all work together for the common good of community. May we set aside the institution of religion and work with the Spirit in our hearts. We pray that as we think about the star they followed to find him, that we too can tap into the light Jesus shines into the darkness. God, be with those who need a little light in their lives. For those who are being bullied at home, school, and/or work, may they have allies around them so they can continue being their authentic selves. Ever-Present God, we’ll gather for worship today celebrating Jesus’ baptism. Remind us of the symbolic nature of water, but also of it’s necessary role in our lives. May we think about those who live without safe drinking water in their communities. Encourage us to do what we can to fuel change so that everyone has equal access to something we all need. And may we think of our own baptisms today, as we pray for those who are preparing to be baptized in the year ahead. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
