This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for a person to eat, to drink and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labour under the sun during the few days of life God has given them – for this is their lot. (Ecclesiastes 5:18)
Creating God, we give thanks for communication tools in our lives. As we recognize Literacy Day, we honour and celebrate those who teach others to read and to write. We give thanks for the things we create and absorb because of literacy. May we use these skills for good, advancing our world in compassionate and caring ways, rather than tearing each other down. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. (Psalms 127:1)
Advocating God, today we pray for those who have been falsely accused of wrongdoings. We pray for those who have been imprisoned or through a court process because of an accusation. May we remember that accusations can ruin lives, even if we don’t think so. Help us to teach each other how to be together, how to do conflict in healthy ways and how to separate emotion from situations. God, may Your justice always prevail. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. (Colossians 3:23)
God, we focus on Suicide Prevention this month and ask you to be in our souls as we may hear heartbreaking stories. For those who are struggling deep in the darkness, we pray that they can give us a cue that they need us. Remind us that we cannot save the world, but we can be present in the moment and help to connect resources. May our friends who are vulnerable in this moment know that we can help when they feel defeated. Grant us the gift of a listening ear and a hopeful presence. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labour prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thessalonians 1:3)
Loving God, many of us remember the events of 911 that happened 24 years ago today. We pray today that our day is filled with no bad news. We pray that our world is safe from fear and war and terrorism. We pray for hope and peace and harmony. I pray that racism and discrimination are eradicated by our interest to understand and respect one another. I pray for an end to extremism so that we can live within whatever norms of society can work for us. God, be with us in our changing world. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

You will eat the fruit of your labour; blessings and prosperity will be yours. (Psalms 128:2)
Comforting God, today is Stand Up to Cancer Day and we pray for all who have Cancer. We pray for researchers and doctors, specialists and surgeons who are saving lives and eradicating cancer from some bodies. We pray that cancer can be stopped in our lifetime. For those new to a journey with cancer, we pray that they are comfortable and have the care needed. We pray everyone knows we are there for them, in the unique ways we can be, and that we can share our light and love along the way. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule:
“The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.” (2 Thessalonians 3:10)
On Saturdays we pray for children and families and today is Positive Thinking Day. God, grant us hearts and minds that can direct our young folks in positive ways. May we not be naïve, but hopeful that they’re on good paths and doing good things. And if not, that they will learn something good from what they’re up to. Keep children and families safe from harm, joyful in Spirit, and loving in heart. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy
of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. (Jude 1:21)
Today is National Colouring Day and we pray that all the colours in the world are available to all who want to partake in the activity. As we gather for worship, remind us that the church is a colouring book and that those who come in the doors are different colours, and together, we create a piece of art by being together. In our singing and praying, hear the colours of our souls pouring out our worship for you, O God. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
