365 Days of Prayer: May 4 to 10, 2026

5/4/2026

May 4, 2026
“If you love me, keep my commands.” (John 14:15)
Loving God, as we begin a new week, we give thanks for gathering to learn new things, and for the beauty of the day. Help us to remember your command: to love God with all our heart, soul, body, and mind, and to love one another. I give thanks for the love and support shown as grandkids start calling our church, ‘home’, and those who help to make it so, day to day and on Sundays. I give thanks for how we accept one another, and how we are handling challenges and disagreements. I give thanks for the joy, celebrations, and sacred moments we all share together. God be with us all our days. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever – the Spirit of Truth.” (John 14:15-17a)
Living God, as I begin to read our book club book, I am mindful of the little ways we hide our real selves from the world sometimes. Without giving it a second thought, God, help us to catch those moments and reflect on them. Where are they rooted? Why do we do it? What is it accomplishing? A lot has changed in a generation, and we are becoming more open and honest about the things we experience and live through. Help us to be authentic people in our world, as best as we can. May the Spirit of your truth forever rest in us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

“The world cannot accept [the Spirit of Truth], because it neither sees him or knows him.
But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” John 14: 17
Eternal God, yesterday was “Red Dress Day” in Canada. Whenever I think of truth, the Truth & Reconciliation journey always comes to mind. It pains my soul that our Indigenous brothers and sisters spoke their truth for so many years before they were believed. My heart aches for those harmed by leaders who should have held compassion and kindness, mercy and grace as the children were in their care. I pray that the harms still being done, as many go missing and are murdered, come to an end with the strict hand of justice. God, may we not take any human for granted and may we treasure all life. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” (John 14:18)
Hope-filled God, thank for the reminder that Mother’s Day is on Sunday and for your hope within us to do something special for the ladies in our lives. Thank you for never leaving our side, even when we push you away. Thank you for your guidance and strength, especially through the hard moments of living. Set in our hearts a little time to slow down, to put our feet up, to quiet our minds, and to rest our souls. The world needs our light and love abundantly, and it is hard to do when we always so busy. May we be able to rest in your arms for but a few moments each day and restore the goodness we know exists within. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

“Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.” (John 14: 19)
Caring God, help us to fully understand and live out Jesus in our lives. We were never promised a life without suffering or consequences, or a life without temptation, guilt, or regret. Help us to share our burdens with him so that we can live more fully, authentically, and honestly in our world. Hold us close as we let things go so we can move forward in good and healthy ways. And God, where it might take a long time, can you help speed up the process? Please? Thanks for having our backs today and all our days. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

“On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.” (John 14:20)
Parenting God, we pray for families today. We pray for their roles, their integrity, their playfulness, and their sanity. This week reminded me how much of a toll having young children around can have on our bodies and souls, in good ways and in bad. We pray that parents get sleep so they can function well. We pray that mealtimes become easy and that little ones are kind and loving with their parents. Grant us all, as a community, the strength and creativity to do what we can to support them, and God, for our sanity too! Thank you for the gift of little ones surrounding us in different ways. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

“Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” (John 14:21)
Praise-worthy God, today we celebrate Moms and all our female caregivers. Thank you for the good ways they guided and nurtured us. Thank you for the lessons we learned when they too were learning how to raise us. And thank you for the love bestowed upon us. Grant all of them a day of rest and praise and may they feel appreciated and loved. Bless them. Keep them warm in your arms. May they feel your strength holding them up, and your hands wiping away tears of concern and joy. God, thank you for loving us and giving us our moms. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
