To them I will give within my temple and its walls a memorial and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that will endure forever. (Isaiah 56:5)
As we continue celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the United Church of Canada, we think about our local churches today. We remember those who closed their doors and became life-givers to congregations they joined. We think of the events and memories shared in the buildings we no longer use. God, be with us as we live out the teachings of Jesus in our communities. Infuse us with your wisdom and grace to be bold and daring. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. (John 15:13)
Happy Anniversary to the United Church of Canada today. 100 years ago, denominations made the move to form a united front in Canada, and though not all denominations joined, we continue to work together to make a difference. We give thanks for the blessings we’ve received as a church. We pray for forgiveness for the harm our church has caused. And we look to healing all relationships within ourselves and others as we live out the teachings of Jesus. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced. (1 Chronicles 16:12)
God, today we pray for the beauty of the world. We give thanks to those who care for the land and all that grows. We give thanks for the creatures and the enjoyment they provide. We give thanks for the people who make our lives better by their presence. We give thanks for Jesus’ light within us, and pray that we continue to shine in kindness, compassion, and love to all we encounter. And God, thank you for those who make community-based decisions for our wellbeing.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. (Isaiah 46:9)
God, thank you for creating us in our world. May we remember that we were created in this time and this place for a purpose. Help us to find our way. Help us to walk the path before us, remembering it’s okay to question the norms, to be critics of systems, and to change and grow along the way. Help us to always be open to your spirit. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. (Psalms 77:11)
Today, bikers near and far will make the journey to Port Dover. We pray for their safety and that they enjoy all that comes their way. We pray that those of us in cars are vigilant and aware of our surroundings. As we enjoy the weekend coming our way, safeguard our roads from harm. May the tired have rest. May the impatient find alternate routes. May the roads be clear. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. (1 Peter 4:14)
On Saturdays we pray for children and families. We pray that the weather fares well for those who have outdoor sports or plans this weekend. We pray that we can hear the laughter of children in our midst everyday. We pray they feel loved and blessed and welcomed. God, as we continue to work towards being a place for families to renew themselves, be in us to provide something unique in their lives. And God, may we also share lots of joy. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” (Malachi 3:10)
Today we gather in church and celebrate the fathers in our lives. We give thanks for the things they teach us and for the love they give us. Today, God, be with us in our congregational meeting as we present a proposal for some changes as we live out our love and your will for the land and your church. Remind us that we are stewards of this great gift of a church and may we always work toward being the best stewards for our congregation and the wider community. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
