365 Days of Prayer: June 23 to June 29, 2025

7/3/2025

June 23, 2025
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. (Ephesians 5:25)
Today is St. John’s Eve. It’s a night to celebrate the birth of John the Baptist. Some celebrate with a bonfire, others collect plants and dry them for a magical bouquet. Others dance beneath the stars or host a feast for friends. Some take a dip at midnight. It is said that any and all of these traditions wash away evil and hold protective powers. Regardless, we pray for pure hearts, good intentions, and protection from harm within and all around us. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. (James 1:21)
God, the celebrations of St. John’s Day may be around us, continuing what was started last night. As we prepare to venture into summer routines and restful days, find something in our hearts and souls that will draw us to slowing down. Help us to grant ourselves permission to rest instead of being busy. Help us to play and to pray, to worship and to praise. Help us to laugh and dance with others or by ourselves. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
On the 25th of the month, we pray for loved ones who have passed away and those who mourn them. We may be celebrating our annual Strawberry Supper, but we also remember those who won’t be here this year. We give thanks for the lives of those who have passed away and for the treasured memories we will hold forever in our hearts. May their love and wisdom continue to live on in us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land your are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
Loving God, thank you for all who serve in your name and those who serve out of the kindness of their hearts. May we serve with joy and compassion around us. May we let go of judgment and live into hope and equity. God, where we’re feeling too tired to serve in the ways we usually do, encourage us to find different ways to do so. Our hands and feet are yours, and so we will always do your work. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. (Psalms 16:8)
God, today we think of our friends who are losing or have lost their sight and/or hearing. We pray that we have the patience and curiosity to learn how to communicate with all people as they need us to. Help to inspire us to go outside our comfort zones and ask how we can better serve and how we can be better neighbours. Where healing can be had, may it be so. Where healing is not possible, be in us to do the work so no one is isolated and alone. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. (1 Timothy 6:17)
On Saturdays we pray for children and families. It’s Global Smurf Day and it reminds me of the fun and frivolity we used to have as children. May the laughter and noises of children be welcome in our midst. May their innocence be protected. May their minds be challenged by the things they see and hear in our world so that they can help us all to create a world that would surprise Jesus himself. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

June 29, 2025
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:36)
Today we gather in church and celebrate Canada Day. When I think of the God who wanted Canada created and the harms that were committed, it helps me to think that those person with impure hearts, in disobedience to God, receive punishment and judgment from the divine. As we are a generation who wants to heal and journey in goodness together today and in the future, help us to heed God’s warnings when we are not pure of heart. Help us to see God’s wisdom and vision and be humble enough to let Canada grow within it. God, help us to set aside our desire for the world so that we can see yours.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
