Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.” (Matthew 4:7)
Loving God, help us to see temptations for what they are. May we recognize the things we need and focus on what is healthy for ourselves and each other. May we work together to resist temptation and to lift each other up, especially through Lent. Give us hearts of generosity and may we be graceful with ourselves. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” (Matthew 4:10)
Loving God, temptation is all around us and I pray that you have rooted us in your strength and your will to keep us on track. For my Lenten practice of boundaries, it is challenging as I love all the people and catching up. I pray that through Lent, normalizing ‘respecting time’ for all of us becomes easy. As one who likes to ramble, may I be gracious when someone says the same to me. God, be with us as we learn and grow. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him. (Matthew 4:11)
Loving God, as we live out our days, remind us that angels are all around us. For our friends who are mourning the loved ones who have passed, may they feel our support around them. When we need comfort, support, strength, or help, we pray that they are there in our time of need. Grant us permission to say out loud “that was hard” or “this is hard” so that when we get through it, we can also acknowledge that we did it. And when we do get through those moments or tasks, help us be good to ourselves and tend to our souls so we can be ready for what comes next. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Nicodemus came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.” (John 3:2)
Loving God, today we take time to reflect. What has happened in our lives or around us that we can name were clearly driven by or gifts of God? The birth of a baby, the colours in the sky, the changed life of someone who was near death, etc. Whatever it is, help us to remember that you are here but also within each and every one of us. May we be bearers of your light, love, and divine intervention. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God
unless they are born again.” (John 3:3)
Loving God, maybe we are challenged by the wording of being born again. Maybe we’re intrigued. Help us to know that each time we grow and learn, when we try something new or are uncomfortable with a change, there is a newness being born within us. You call us to be bearers of good news and that is an action, not just a word. Help us to share you in all that we do, in the struggles of growing and learning, and in being uncomfortable when trying something new. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. (John 3:5-6)
Loving God, your Spirit is set in our hearts at birth. As we pray for children and families today, help us to remember to tap into that Spirit. May we live with the liberating freedom that comes with following the Spirit and letting go of things beyond our control. As the living water of the earth is all around us, it is also within us. It sustains us and nurtures us, keeping us alive in the physical form. But your Spirit, O God, keeps us alive in our souls. I pray that we are infused with your passion and energy in all our days. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ (John 3:7)
Loving God, on the first of each month we think about Truth & Reconciliation and the history of our Indigenous brothers and sisters. God, this is a space where we have a lot of learning, understanding, and growth to do. We are only given what is currently known and yet, more information continues to come to the surface. My heart aches that anyone suffered harm at the hands of another, simply because they thought themselves as better. I pray we truly learn the histories and compassionately start living as one diversely rich community. And may all who need support, get it in very appropriate ways. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
