365 Days of Prayer: April 7 to April 13, 2025

4/6/2025

April 7, 2025
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27)
God, it’s like you were reading my mind today when we were presented with “National No Housework Day.”  Thank you for the gift and permission of eating off paper plates and letting the house just be, well, if it can be. May we take that time, instead, to reach into our hearts and rest in you.  Maybe we can even take a few moments and empty the deepest parts of our souls to you in prayer and be ready for the mystery of your response. God, thank you for another Monday. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. (Matthew 26:28)
On a day where our reading asks us to celebrate Communion in remembrance of our Saviour, help us to be intentional as we eat. May we celebrate the creation of those who farm so we can eat. We give thanks for their gifts and skills, their perseverance and their connection with the earth and animals. May we take time to offer a farmer a genuine gesture of thanks – even in a social media post. Thank you, O God, for all of creation. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” (Mark 14:61-62)
Gracious God, you are mysteriously and wonderfully at work in the world. Today’s scripture ties in so well with the International Day of Pink – fighting against bullying, discrimination, and more. May we all be accepted as we are and not shamed or bullied by others. Help us to remain focused on the good in the world, calling others into account when they harm others. Be in our souls and transform our ways of being.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 10, 2025
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
God, you grant us another reading tied in with another important day where we “Erase Self-Negativity.” Help us to let go of the old way of thinking of ourselves and taking to ourselves. Though it will take some work, may we hear your voice within as our cheerleader. Help us to become our greatest hero and cheerleader so that we can be the best of who you call and know us to be. When negativity starts to sneak in, may we tell it to go away. May we tell it that it has no place here. And may we truly learn to love ourselves as you love us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. (Isaiah 43:19)
Loving God, today we give thanks that it is “National Living Donor Day” and for those who give of themselves so that others can live. For those of us who hesitate, grant us the courage to research and ask questions. Surround us with people who have lived experience. May we even consider the smallest of donations that has the biggest impact – donating blood. We give thanks for those who have been matched and have given more life to another. Help us to discern if and where we can help or where we can help raise awareness. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 12, 2025
For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance – now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant. (Hebrews 9:15)
God, on Saturdays we usually pray for children and youth. We ask you to be in them, in their curiosity, and help direct them on their life journey.  Today is “National Only Child Day” and we are blessed that we can call so many only children our brothers and sisters so they feel like they are part of a bigger family. In my heart of hearts, O God, I’m asking for families around us who have been longing for community connection, to reach out and try a church on for size. May they feel welcomed and at home.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

April 13, 2025
I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 11:19)
God, today many Christians around the world are celebrating Palm Sunday. It is the beginning of Holy Week. We give thanks for the celebration Jesus received when he rode into town. We give thanks that so many learned and knew about the things he was able to do and the impact he made on communities.  As we journey through the darkest part of the Christian story this week, be in our hearts. Help us to find a few extra moments each day for prayer. May we offer to you our thoughts of what and who we might be in the stories that lead us through this week. God be with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
